California State University, San Bernardino provides student access to electronic
communications through a system of various Electronic Communication Accounts.

World Wide Web. Because this is an Internet accessible account, there are strict
guidelines for use. The guidelines outlined in this document constitute a contract
that is accepted and strictly enforce upon account activation. Violation if
any, or part, of these guidelines will result in a permanent loss of access
to CSUSB Internet resources. Access to an Internet account is a privilege, not
a right.
You should be aware that although service providers supply and preserve security of files, account, authorization codes, and passwords, security can be reached through actions or causes beyond their reasonable control. Your are urged, therefore, to safeguard your data, personal information, password, and authorization codes, and confidential data; to take full advantage of file security mechanisms built into the computing system; and to choose your password wisely and to change them periodically.
The following guidelines will be used to reference appropriate use of CSUSB Internet resources assigned by Academic Computing and Media. In addition to these guidelines, all Federal, State and local laws as well as CSU system and CSUSB regulations will be enforced.
Passwords are confidential. Each account is given a confidential password that provides security against unauthorized use. The user is responsible for all activity that originates from the account. Do not give anyone your password. If a user forgets the password, the system administrator will change the password, which may result in delayed access. Any attempt to decode or "crack" password is enforced.
Resources allocations is controlled by the system administrator. In appropriate classes, a student account may be assigned a directory for file storage. Users must not attempt to exceed these storage limits. Any attempts to exceed directory limits or to exceed allocated memory, network bandwidth or disk space is prohibited. It is not permissible for account holders to give away allocations of their disk space to others users within the system.
All authorized electronics mail accounts stored on the CSU telecommunication network shall be considered confidential. It is illegal to view or tamper with any electronic data for which you do not have explicit authorization. Access to accounts or disclosure of confidential information, for any purpose other than technical problem resolution, by appropriate system administrators, will be reviewed by the senior Academic Affairs Office, and honored only when required by law enforcement agencies or when there is probable cause to suspect illegal activity. Users must respect the rights of others; you must comply with all University policies regarding sexual, racial, and other forms of harassment. Material in violations of the University Harassment Policies, or material which is lewd, indecent obscene, may not be stored, printed or displayed on University equipment.
Alteration of system files is considered vandalism. Any attempt to deliberately alter system files or structure is considered destruction of University property. In case of vandalism, the Student Conduct Officer will be contacted and appropriate discipline will be administered, in addition to loss of access to campus computing resources.
Netscape, Telnet and FTP access is for authorized uses only. Users must respect the intended academic uses of these resources. Under no circumstances are unauthorized logins or attempted logins to other Internet systems allowed. Users who attempt unauthorized entry or manipulation of an Internet system will be subjected to discipline from both CSUSB and the affected Internet site.
General Internet access. All posting to the Internet is public and subject to review and discipline in accordance with these guidelines. Students may not use e-mail for personal financial gain. Specifically prohibited is the selling of access to e-mail or other CSUSB Internet resources. Development of a student's personal homepage constitutes the acceptance of relevant campus policies and agreement to comply with those policies and all applicable laws. Misuse shall result in appropriate disciplinary action.
While account holders may expect reasonable access to e-mail, this access cannot be guaranteed at all times and in all circumstances. Students shall relinquish their terminal access when it is required by system support for repair or maintenance activities, Students shall not remain logged in when they are not actively using the computer. Sessions which have been idle for 30 minutes will be automatically disconnected from the network.
It is user's responsibility to read, understand and accept the terms of this contract before an account is activated.
