Finding an Internship and Earning Credit for Econ 575

Economics, political economy, and business econ majors may earn four units of credit towards their bachelor's degrees by serving as interns with private businesses, government agencies, or non-profit organizations in positions whose responsibilities include the practical application of economic concepts.  A plan of internship activities must be pre-approved by both a job-site supervisor and the Economics Department internship coordinator, and students must enroll in Economics 575 (Internship in Economics).

If you are interested in finding an internship and earning credit for Econ 575, here’s how to get started:

(1) read “Economics 575 – Internship in Economics:  Policies and Procedures”
(2) if you already have identified a specific internship possibility you plan to pursue, discuss it briefly with an internship coordinator (Dr. Pierce/Dr. Toruño, SB-209F/D) to ensure it fits within the guidelines for Econ 575.
 (3) if you want to discuss strategies for searching for an internship (in the Inland Empire or elsewhere), make an appointment to meet with a career counselor at the Career Development Center, UH-329, 537-5250. Once you identify a specific internship possibility, contact Dr. Pierce/Dr. Toruño regarding Econ 575 guidelines, per (2) above.
 (4) upon arranging an internship placement, devise a plan of internship activities in consultation with your job-site supervisor.  That plan (and the Internship Contract as a whole) must be approved by an Economics Department internship coordinator prior to the commencement of internship activities.
