Possible Student Jobs in Economics Department
The Economics Department occasionally has openings for student helpers in the department office. Both work-study and non-work-study jobs are occasionally available. Economics students have had internships with the following organizations:

Supervised work in public or private organizations emphasizing practical applications of economic concepts and relationships. May be repeated once for credit. Graded credit/no credit. Prerequisites: consent of instructor and departmental approval of a written proposal submitted on a standard application filed in advance of the quarter in which the course is to be taken. (4 units)
Purpose: to provide students the opportunity to (a) apply basic economic concepts in an environment outside the classroom; and (b) increase their exposure to the professional workplace.
Internship Criteria, Procedures and Process
A. Interns must have grade point averages of at least 2.0 overall and in the economics or business economics major, and must have completed at least 90 quarter units of degree-applicable course work, i.e., must have achieved junior standing.
B. Internship placements may be with private sector businesses, non-profit organizations or government agencies.
C. Internship activities must be related in some way to economics, and must be approved by the economics faculty member providing general oversight on the placement.
D. Interns must have an on-site supervisor who agrees to oversee the satisfactory completion of a set of activities determined jointly by supervisor and intern, and approved by the overseeing economics faculty member. These activities must be outlined on an Internship Contract form which the student must complete and submit to the Economics Department prior to the quarter in which the internship is to be undertaken.
E. Internships may be paid or unpaid.
F. Internships typically commence at the beginning of the academic quarter. Weekly hours are scheduled so that the internship can be completed by the end of the quarter.
G. In order to earn credit for Econ 575, interns must: (1) perform a minimum of 120 hours service at the internship site; (2) receive a satisfactory written evaluation from the on-site supervisor; and (3) submit to the faculty member overseeing the internship a satisfactory written report relating to internship activities.
a. an internship evaluation form is sent by the Department of Economics to the on-site supervisor during the seventh or eighth week of the quarter.
b. the overseeing faculty member determines the exact nature and deadline of the written report required for the internship, and assigns a final grade of "credit" or "no credit" for Economics 575.
H. While it is possible to earn up to eight units of credit for Economics 575, only under extraordinary circumstances, and with approval of the Economics Department chair, may the second internship be undertaken with the same entity as the first.
